Symphony

The permission form for the Symphony was sent home on Wednesday to all students in grades 3, 4, and 5. Please ensure the form and money is returned to school by October 6.  The school will be hosting a free concert by 4 brass Symphony players on October 14.  The grade 3 - 5 students will watch the concert from 1 - 1:35 and the kindergarten to grade 2 students will watch the assembly from 2:05 - 2:40.

Welcome Back

Music Clubs

There will be four optional music clubs offered this year during the lunch break from 11:45 - 12:25. 

The Grade 4/5 choir will practice on Day 1 starting on October 2nd.  The Grade 3 choir will practice on Day 4 starting on September 29.  The Grade 4 Orff Club will practice on Day 5 starting on September 30.  The Grade 5 Theatre Club will commence in January.  Please encourage your child to participate in these extra activities.

Recorders

A note will be going home soon for Grade 3 students purchasing a soprano recorder and for Grade 5 students purchasing / borrowing the alto recorder.

 Concert Changes

Due to the high numbers of students in the primary years, the winter concert will include only students in kindergarten, grade 1 and grade 2.  The concert dates will be December 16th and 17th.  More information as to which class performs on which date as well as the times of the concerts will be announced soon.

The spring concert will include students in grades 3,4, and 5.  The grade 3 students will sing in the chorus.  The grade 4/5 students will have the opportunity to audition in February for a speaking/singing role. 

Divisional Children's Choir

A note went home today explaining the Divisional Children's Choir.  It is open for any Grade 4 students who want to sing and be part of an auditioned choir for Grade 5 students.  Students will need to sing either O Canada or She's Like a Swallow.  Please ensure you register for an audition time asap at www.sjsdchoirs.ca

She's Like the Swallow

Congratulations on the Great Musical

Our presentation of American Pop Forever was a great hit.  Thank you to all of the volunteers, staff and students for their hard work.  Students learned all about the various styles of music, dance and clothing and we adults, reminisced about our favourite songs growing up!  Well done!

Divisional Theatre Club

A package went home yesterday to students interested in auditioning for the Divisional Theatre Club in Grades 3 - 5.  Based on an audition from April 30 - May 8 some students will be selected to represent our school in The Lion King Musical.  Practices will be starting in Sept - Jan one day a week after school and some Sundays.  All schools in the division will be represented.  If you need more information or the package please let me know.

Audition times are on-line so please ensure you enrol immediately to ensure a time for an audition.

Festival Assembly

All groups who performed in the Winnipeg Music Festival, including Grade 3 choir, Grade 4 Orff Club and Grade 5 Theatre Club, will perform their songs for the school on Wednesday, March 25 at 10:50. Please come dressed in the clothes you wore for the festival!  This will conclude the clubs for this year!  Thank you all for participating!

Pizza Party

On Tuesday, March 24 all students participating in the music clubs including grade 3 choir, grade 4 Orff Club, grade 5 Theatre Club and Grades 4 & 5 Choir will have a pizza party at 11:25 to celebrate the great year of learning, performances and hard work!  Congrats!

Congratulations Orff Club

Congratulations to the the Grade 4 Orff Club for their gold performance at the Winnipeg Music Festival.  Your talent was very evident!

Congratulations Chorale 3me année

The Grade 3 choir received a silver award at the Winnipeg Music Festival on March 9th.  Their songs were filled with energy, phrasing, rhythm and accurate notes.  Well done!

Congratulations Theatre Club!

The Grade 5 Theatre Club sang a very energetic and exciting performance of We're all in this Together from the High School Musical in the Winnipeg Music Festival on March 3rd.  They received a gold award for this outstanding performance! Congrats!

Winnipeg Music Festival

More information and permission forms will be sent home in the middle of February.  The dates are:

Grade 5 Theatre Club - March 3 a.m. at Westminister Church

Grade 3 Choir - March 9 p.m. at Westminister Church

Grade 4 Orff Club - March 20 a.m. at Bird's Hill School

We will need parent volunteers for these events so if you have your criminal record check and are available, please let me know!

Music Celebration

The Grade 5 Theatre Club will be performing We're All in this Together at Music Celebration on February 12 at Sturgeon Creek United Church (207 Thompson Drive).  Students are asked to arrive at 4:40 and perform at 5:10.

The Grade 3 Choir will be performing L'oranger and Jim-Along-Josie at Music Celebration on February 12 at Sturgeon Creek United Church (207 Thompson Drive).  Students are asked to arrive at 5:15 and perform at 5:50 in their choir uniform (vests will be given to students that day).

Parents are responsible for driving the students to and from the concert.  This is a practice before singing at the Winnipeg Music Festival.  Please come out and support our school groups!
